First Time Surgery: Primary

Each individual's eyelids has their own unique presentation of single eyelid without crease, variable amount of fat, skin, asymmetry and difference in eyelid opening sizes. We seek to balance these in the best possible way to create a natural look comparable to a natural born double eyelid crease.

Repeat Surgery, Revisions, and Touch-ups of Asymmetry and High Crease after Double Eyelid Surgery

If you have had surgery elsewhere already:

We not only provide top-notch service for first-time double eyelid surgery patients, but also do a great job in corrective surgery for those patients who have had surgery done before but were not satisfied (sub-optimal results, unevenness, or overly Westernizing features like higher-than-normal Asian crease).

The complexity is greater and understandably less predictive in outcome. However often the situation can be helped through proper timing of revision touchups (sometimes waiting), proper choice of techniques that yields the best improvement under the circumstances, and proper avoidance of unnecessary and untimely intervention that patients may be pursuing. These assessments are more detailed and will need office consultation for accurate recommendation.

We also help those who had surgery while they were younger and now 15-30 years later will need "tune- ups" of their double eyelid crease (more redundant skin and loosened muscles as we age).

VIP Program for Out-Of-Town Patients

It is practical and possible for our "Very Important Patients" from out-of-town to pre-arrange to come in for office consultation and discussion with Dr.Chen the day before and then to undergo surgery the next day. Our friendly staff can help give recommendations on reasonable hotel lodgings and logistics.

The patient may have the option of traveling the next day after the procedure and then return on the seventh day for a repeat visit; or to stay in the Southern California area for a relaxing week until the one week exam. Some new patients may arrange to visit us during one of their work trip and then come back months later for the procedure during a one week vacation in the area.

Closest Airports

The closest airport in Orange County is John Wayne Orange County International Airport (SNA), about twenty miles south of LA county. We have two offices here, in Irvine (main office) and in Newport Beach. Both are two to five miles only from SNA. Most domestic carriers fly in here.

Nearby Hotels

In Irvine, one can stay close to the Irvine Spectrum shopping center at the Courtyard Marriott, Marriott, or Doubletree hotels.

In Newport Beach, one can stay very close to the Fashion Island shopping center as well as our office there, as the surgical center is just next to our Newport office. Nearby hotels include Marriott Hotel Newport Beach and the Island Hotel, while La Quinta Inn in Costa Mesa is close to South Coast Shopping Center.

Your week in Los Angeles or Orange County:

Many of our VIPatients are new to the area and are surprised at how diverse the region is. Besides having good weather all year around, there are plenty of things to do during your week’s stay in the area; here are just some of my favorites:

If you are in the South Bay area, you are close to:

• Shoreline Village of downtown Long Beach(the tourists area), shops, restaurants, movies, hotels, LB Aquarium; some ethnic restaurants.
• Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Marina del Rey—nice beaches, walk and cycling trails, along Pacific Ocean

If in Orange County, you are close to:

• Newport Beach(Fashion Island Shopping Center)/ little Corona del Mar beach areas, Lido Island
• Irvine: upscale Irvine Spectrum shopping mall(open air walking, theaters, restaurants), Asian-themed Diamond-Jamboree Mall (many ethnic restaurants, bakeries, market, favorite dim-sum place and noodle shops of all type)
• Costa Mesa (South Coast Plaza Shopping Center and Crystal Court—recently written up in Los Angeles Times as the #1 destination for oversea Asians to shop, sometimes for more than one day).
• Little Saigon (Westminster, many ethnic restaurants), Korean district (Garden Grove). Disneyland(Anaheim), Knott’s Berry Farm amusement park (Buena Park).
• Laguna Beach (beautiful shops and restaurants, art galleries, beach walk).

Other attractions

• Further South you have Carlsbad Outlet Mall, Del Mar beach (surf spot), La Jolla (University of California San Diego, and Scripps Aquarium), all the way to San Diego.
• Central Los Angeles—-Hollywood sights and its history, Koreatown (mid-Wilshire Boulevard area), Los Angeles County Museum of Art
• Pasadena: Griffith Observatory, Norton Simon Museum, Huntington Library/Art Collections and Botanical Gardens, Cal Tech campus, Old Pasadena, One Colorado, Paseo Colorado.
• Further east from downtown LA: Monterey Park, El Monte, San Gabriel valley cities—Asian communities

West Los Angeles:

• Santa Monica beach, Third Street Promenade (open air walking and shopping district, ecletic), Venice beach boardwalk(“muscle beach”, ecletic)
• Westwood district—area inside and outside of the beautiful UCLA campus, drop by their Student Union Shop for souvenirs(all the Japanese tourist buses do!), Hammer Museum, Getty Museum—Getty Center in Brentwood(close to UCLA)
• Further out from south bay, from San Pedro pier—ferry ride to Catalina Island and Avalon(day trip).

Of course, Santa Barbara and its missions, San Francisco, Napa/Sonoma’s fantastic wineries, Palm Spring/Palm Desert, Las Vegas (Nevada) are all favorite weekend destinations for Los Angelenos Southern Californians.
